We are doing our best to continue serving our community while also respecting Sacramento county’s COVID-19 guidelines during this time. Although COVID infection numbers are decreasing, safety is still our utmost concern for your family and our staff. In accordance with Sacramento County’s Public Health Office guidelines, our office is scheduling exams by appointment only.

GENERAL OFFICE REQUIREMENTS

ο Everyone is required to wear a face mask while in the office; this applies to all staff and all patients. Patients may wear a covering from home.

ο Only the patient is allowed into the office at this time. If you are a minor or require physical/translation assistance, you may have 1 other person accompany you. Otherwise, we ask that all other individuals wait outside or in their cars if weather permits.

ο If you have COVID-related symptoms (fever, dry cough, shortness of breath) or have been in contact with a COVID-19 infected individual in the past 2 weeks, we will reschedule your appointment.

ο Patients may be asked questions related to COVID-19, or to wash their hands/use hand sanitizer during their visit.

ο To minimize unnecessary contact:

  • Aim to maintain six feet of separation between all other people when possible.

  • To avoid crowding the waiting room, patients are asked to wait in their car, if possible, until they can proceed to an exam room.

  • We have removed any unnecessary “high touch” items, such as magazines and snacks in the reception area.

OPTICAL AREA

ο After trying on frames, we ask that patients put the items in the appropriate trays provided by our staff and NOT back on the wall.

ο All frames that have been touched or handled by patients & staff will be sanitized appropriately with Pure&Clean, an alcohol-based cleaner or another appropriate disinfectant.

ο Maintain 6 feet of separation when browsing frames, otherwise wait until there are less than 3 people in the optical area.

FAQs

Is it safe to have an eye exam?

We are taking every measure we can to ensure your safety as well as the safety of our staff.  Our protocols were adopted from guidance provided by local and national health agencies.  Due to our screening process and PPE requirements, we believe that you are at less risk than when you go grocery shopping as they do not have the same guidelines and higher traffic.

Can i wear contact lenses still?

Yes, recent studies have confirmed that contact lenses are safe for healthy individuals during COVID-19.  When wearing contact lenses during this time, it is important to remember that good hygiene habits are critical, unwashed hands should be kept away from the face, and if you are sick, you should temporarily stop wearing your contacts.

are appointments for an eye exam required?

Yes! This will help control the number of patients in the office, and allow the staff to disinfect and clean in-between scheduled appointments. For order pick-ups, we are not requiring appointments, but a heads-up would be nice!

why should i wear a mask?

Wearing a mask in addition to social distancing and frequent and proper hand sanitization has been the most effective way to reduce infection chances when outside of your own home. Wearing a mask will keep respiratory secretions within that barrier and help protect others.

can i bring a family member to my appointment?

In an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we ask that all patients come alone. We are making every effort to ensure that you, our patients, as well as our staff remain safe. Limiting the number of people in our office will allow us to more effectively practice safe social distancing.

what are you using to disinfect your office?

We are using a product called Pure&Clean. Pure&Clean is a hypochlorous acid solution. Hypochlorous Acid is a weak acid (similar pH to intact skin) and is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies.  It is the same chemical that our own white blood cells produce to fight off infection and kill bacteria. It has been named an EPA registered hospital disinfectant with designations for: Adenovirus, Norovirus or Norwalk Virus, Rhinovirus, Rotavirus, Respiratory Syncytal Virus (RSV), Candida Albicans, C-Diff, E-coli, Listeria, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, MRSA, VRE, Tuberculosis, HIV, Infulenza A, H1N1, and COVID-19 (EPA Registration number 92108-1).
