What is LASIK?

LASIK, (short for laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis surgery), is a cutting-edge vision correction procedure that utilizes laser technology to permanently improve your vision. During the procedure, a highly-skilled optometrist creates a thin flap over your cornea and uses a state-of-the-art LASIK system equipped with a computerized tracking device to send laser energy to targeted areas of your eye tissue. This reshapes your cornea and enhances your eye's ability to focus on light, which is essential for the retina at the back of your eye to process images and send them to your brain.

What is recovery like after lasik?

One of the primary advantages of LASIK surgery is the almost immediate improvement in vision. Many patients report clearer vision shortly after the procedure. It's normal to experience some discomfort, burning, itching, and blurred vision initially.

The recovery period for LASIK is short, and most patients can return to work within a few days. Following the procedure, our trusted partners will likely schedule a follow-up appointment within a few days to ensure that your eyes are healing correctly and to evaluate your vision. Depending on your needs and recovery progress, the team will schedule regular check-up visits for the first six months.

Am I a candidate for LASIK?

Due to advancements in LASIK technology, an increasing number of people are now eligible for the procedure. You may be an ideal candidate for LASIK if you have myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism (misshapen eyes). LASIK may also help improve other types of eye conditions. To determine if LASIK is right for you, it is best to schedule a screening at Vang Family Optometry. Our team will perform a thorough corneal topography to assess the curvature of your eye and a comprehensive eye exam to determine your eligibility for LASIK.
